    Why naming differs here

Agents and teams often build on their own name because clients hire a person. Brokerages and property companies more often use brand names. Either way, most states regulate how real estate businesses advertise, and many require the brokerage name to appear in marketing. Check your state commission's rules and your broker's policy before you print anything.

    How customers find and choose

Buyers and sellers usually choose an agent through referrals, signs in their neighborhood and online research. Sellers in particular look up agents' recent sales and reviews before making contact. Your name appears on yard signs, listing portals and social media, often next to your photo. A clear, professional name that people associate with your local area helps those signs and listings bring in the next client.

    What works

    • Home words. Key, Haven, Hearth, Porch and Nest feel personal.
    • Place and landscape words. Ridge, Harbor and Vista suggest a location.
    • Professional descriptors. "Realty", "Properties" or "Homes" signal the business.
    • A team name built on a surname. Common for agent teams within a brokerage.

    What to avoid

    • Breaking advertising rules. Team names that sound like an independent brokerage can be restricted in many states.
    • Using "Realtor" in a name. REALTOR is a registered collective membership mark of the National Association of REALTORS, with rules on how it can be used.
    • Hyper-local names if you plan to cover a wider area.

    Rules and registration to know

Real estate advertising is closely regulated. Many states require the brokerage name to appear in all advertising, and some restrict team names that could make a team look like an independent brokerage, for example names using words such as 'Realty' or 'Brokerage' without the supervising broker's name. The word REALTOR is a registered collective membership mark of the National Association of REALTORS, and its use is governed by NAR rules. Ask your broker and check your state real estate commission's advertising rules before choosing a name.

This is general information, not legal advice. Requirements differ by state and country, so confirm with your licensing body or a professional.

    Where your name will appear

Before you decide, list every place customers will see the name. For this kind of business that usually means yard signs, listing portals, business cards, open house signs, MLS records, social media, email signatures and print ads. Mock the name up in two or three of those places. A name that looks great on a website can be cramped on a receipt or unreadable on a small app tile, and it is much cheaper to find that out now.

    A quick naming checklist

    • Check your state's team and advertising rules.
    • Get your broker's approval for team names.
    • Search your market for similar names.
    • Make sure it fits a yard sign rider.
    • Avoid using REALTOR in the name.

Before you use any name, run the checks in our availability guide. Generated names are not screened against trademarks or business registers.
